8/07 Grand Haven Coast Guard City USA

Our plan was to get up early and head the 52 miles to Grand Haven, MI before the winds picked up.  Well, the fishermen on our dock wanted to make sure we got out early.  They were up at 5 a.m.  They made lots of conversation and crashing of cooler lids, etc.  One boat even threw on of their lines on our boat as they left the dock.

So we were up early.  It was a beautiful day to travel, not too warm, not too windy.  Grand Haven was having a Coast Guard festival this weekend.  Grand Haven is the Coast Guard City USA and they proudly proclaim that on a huge sand dune across the harbor.

On the way, one of the boats that we have traveled with sent us a picture of the Hydrophilic and we sent them one of Bee Haven.

Even though it was after 1 p.m. when we arrived, the number of boats in the harbor was amazing.  The boats were going every which way. The Grand Haven Light welcomed us though.
At 5, we had docktails on the flybridge of our boat.  The crews of Yesterday Dream, Bee Haven, Su Sueno, Wye Tug, and Sandy's Bottom, who are all loopers joined us for appetizers and BYOB.  What fun we had talking about favorite ports of call, dock hands who just let go of the lines, and one dock hand didn't and ended up in the water, etc.  It was so nice to hear everyone's plans for heading down to Chicago.

We will be here for the next few days.  Tonight, there is a synchronized lighted water concert.  We have prime viewing from the back of our boat.
