Last night in Blind River, the sky was like it was on fire.
Rain and high winds were in the forecast, so we got an early start to cross Lake Huron to Drummond Island, Michigan. It was pretty choppy as we started out and about half way across the lake. As we got closer to the Michigan shore, the land blocked some of the wind and the seas calmed down.
The border of the US and Canada is on our chart plotter and we could tell when we were back in US waters.
We checked back into the USA at Drummond Island Yacht Haven.
We had reservations for a slip for the night and were going to get fuel.
We were directed to the fuel dock and greeted by on of the dock hands. She told us that she can't pump fuel until we were cleared by Customs and Border Patrol. In less than 10 minutes, CBP was at our boat. They were very nice and professional. We had our passports and documentation ready. No, we don't have any pets on board. No, we don't have over $10,000 in cash on board (we wish). Did we buy anything in Canada? Yes, pajamas and Sea tech boat cleaner and here are the receipts. Of course, I ate my weight in butter tarts. Good thing that they don't weigh you in.
We got our fuel and got settled in our slip and had a quick lunch before the sheets of rain came.
They have a nice program here. For $12, you can rent one of their courtesy cars; ours was a Lincoln Navigator with 153,849 miles on it. We got reservations at the Bayside Restaurant which was described as fine dining. On the way there and the way home we saw huge deer crossing the road. That was more wildlife than we saw in Canada. The dinner was excellent and the Bayside had beautiful grounds going down to the water.
There were handmade Native figures in the lobby.
Our plan is to go to DeTour Island tomorrow then on to Mackinac Island for a couple of days as the weather is supposed to make us want to hunker down.
